Commercial Jazz

This can also be known as funk (depends where in the world you are )
Just to liven up the board, what do you think commercial jazz (ie Britney, Christina) is? Some people argue that it simply hiphop, others say it is a style of jazz that is much more commercial than regular jazz, however not quite hiphop. I'm obviously more for the latter, but what are your thoughts?

Well, Hmn, The way Brtiney Spears and N*Sync and all of them dance I would probabley say Hip Hop, Though, There are all kinds of styles of Jazz, So it could just be a style of Jazz. Not really on topic, But have you ever heard of Joe Istre? He does jazz, But it's all kinds of styles, He doesn't really stick with just one. Which is a lot of fun, But also reminds me of the way pop stars dance. You know, I think I'm going to need more time to ponder on this.....

I teach jazz at FSC and we do closer to hip hop but like with more flare i guess you would call it.... and more like moves that are based in classic dances...

In terms of music, yes. In terms of dance, it's hip hop.

Actually I never knew what the kind of dance they do was, it's funk!!! This past weekend Robert Schultz came to my studio to teach us the opener to our recital, and one of the dance was a style I never seen it was like jazz, but with a hip-hop taste, it was funk, he told us that.
